Any business or independent contractor who provides vehicle cleaning services can use a car wash receipt. These include, but are not limited to, car washes, car dealerships, car detailers, and parking garages.
Are Car Wash Services Subject to Sales Taxes?
Car cleaning is subject to state sales taxes in the following states:
- Connecticut, Delaware (gross receipts tax), Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, New Jersey, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and West Virginia.
What to Include
- Company/contractor name, address, phone number, email address, and website;
- Customer name, address, and phone number;
- Detailed description of services and their associated costs and quantities;
- Payment method (cash, check, credit card, other);
- Receipt number;
- Subtotal;
- Tax rate (if applicable);
- Tax due (if applicable);
- Total amount due;
- Total amount paid;
- Transaction date; and
- Vehicle information: make, model, year, color.
