A gun (sale) receipt is a proof of purchase document that the seller of a firearm gives to the buyer when the transaction is final. It includes information identifying the buyer, seller, gun, and transaction. Depending on the State where the purchase occurs, the receipt may be required for the buyer to register the firearm in their name.

Please note: a gun receipt does NOT provide proof of the transfer of ownership. The seller and buyer need to execute a Firearm (Gun) Bill of Sale before the transaction takes to serve as proof of ownership transfer.
